About Rachel

My journey into yoga began in 2013, when I was looking for a creative outlet to help manage stress. The practice resonated with me even then, though it would be a few more years before it truly stuck. I had no idea where it would take me.

I found my way back to the Hot Room in April 2018, in the middle of a difficult stretch of life - navigating medical school interviews while at the same time realizing that path no longer lit me up. I walked in tired and a little lost, looking for some movement to reconnect me to myself and help pull me from the slump I felt stuck in. What I found was more than a workout. Yoga became my anchor: a place to think clearly, breathe deeply, and rebuild a sense of wholeness I didn't know I was missing. It's been most consistent form of self-care ever since, and the community I found along the way has been just as meaningful as the practice itself.

In 2019, I completed my first teacher training! The 500-hour Level 1 26&2 program with Craig Villani and Raja Yoga Academy in Victoria, BC. Since then, I've logged over 900 hours of training across different modalities of yoga and functional mobility work, including certifications in Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) and Functional Range Assessment (FRA). My academic background in biology and neuroscience definitely shapes how I teach - I care about joint health, nervous-system regulation, and building practices that hold up over a lifetime, not just in the moment.

Today I'm grateful to be the Owner and Director of Hot Yoga Vancouver, where I get to build the kind of studio I wish I'd found sooner - one that values sustainability and consistency over performance. I've also had the privilege of leading teacher trainings on a national level, helping shape the next generation of instructors. Teaching is my passion, and holding space for the work that happens on the mat is one of the greatest honors of my life. At the end of the day, we don't practice yoga to get good at yoga - we practice to get better at living. So let's get to it! See you on your mat.
